Theresa’s love of dance begun at the age of 3, when she was taught by her mum-who was also a dancer- at local ballet classes. From age 4 she attended Wendy Foster School of Dancing. From the age of 5 Theresa has performed in annual dance shows and in many other performances including Lincoln Cathedral Mystery Plays.
Theresa is trained in RAD Ballet and ISTD Modern, Tap and Imperial Ballet. In 2004 she achieved the highest level examination Grade 8 in RAD Classical Ballet. Theresa’s love of theatre has led to roles in shows with The Lindsay Rural Players at the Broadbent Theatre, Lincolnshire and many years of classical voice training with the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music.
Theresa’s involvement with children’s activities started when she became a Young Leader with a local Brownie group, with which she was actively involved in weekly meetings and camping trips.
After completing Dance and Sports Science subjects for A-levels, she went on to graduate from Surrey University with a BA Hons degree in Dance and Culture, choosing to focus on ‘the classical’ Kathak and Ballet in her final years.
Whilst still studying, Theresa completed a Teaching Associate in Classical Ballet with the International Dance Teachers Association, which led to teaching Ballet classes for the Campusdance programme at Unisport, Guildford, this included choreographing for end of term shows, she continues to teach these classes.
Unfortunately due to illness throughout her years of training, Theresa’s focus of the purpose of dance was altered from performance to dance for health purposes. Personal injury has led to an interest in dance for rehabilitation purposes which has been reinforced by work she has done since.
Theresa completed a work placement with Green Candle Dance Company, which led to part time work on many projects ranging from their youth company to weekly seated dance sessions with Mile End Hospital in London, and community and day centres in the East end of London.
Theresa is passionate about giving everyone the chance to experience her joy of dance and therefore hopes to provide classes to suit each individual in smaller groups to have most benefit for its participants. Theresa has developed an interest in the ageing process and its anatomical effects, focusing on the very young and the older person, and promoting the benefit that dance and movement can have on the developmental aspects of a child right through to the health and rehabilitation of the more mature adult.
