Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy aims to treat the whole person by helping to restore harmony of mind, body and spirit. It works with the pure properties of plants, using their essential oils in a natural complimentary therapy, which can help improve physical and emotional wellbeing. Aromatherapy is most effective in therapeutic massage using relaxing or uplifting fragrances.

Benefits or Aromatherapy can include:

  • The relief of stress and tension
  • A feeling of deep relaxation
  • Stimulated immune system
  • A calm and soothed mind
  • Improved blood and lymph circulation
  • Increased energy levels
  • A general sense of wellbeing

What happens during a treatment?

Aromatherapy oils are blended with base oil known as a carrier, before being applied to the skin. Oils are blended to suit the individual needs of the client. Depending on the chosen treatment you will be required to remove clothing but will be covered in towels to ensure your modesty. There are two main ways that you can benefit from essential oils; either from being absorbed through the skin, or through breathing. The oil can have a physical effect by causing chemical changes in your body’s systems, and a psychological effect when you inhale the fragrance. As the sense of smell has a direct link to your brain, this can have am immediate effect on your body.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a relaxing holistic treatment. Based on the principle that the reflex points on the soles, tops and sides of the feet are connected to corresponding areas throughout the body.

The Reflexologist will work on the reflexes with their thumbs and fingers using specialised massage techniques, said to help correct imbalances throughout the body, and help release blocked energy.

Benefits of reflexology can include:

  • Reduced stress
  • Feeling of deep relaxation
  • Increased energy levels
  • The release of endorphins, the bodies feel good hormones (which can also provide pain relief)
  • Improved circulation
  • More efficient removal of impurities and toxins
  • A stronger immune system
  • A sense that the whole body is better balanced, or in harmony

What happens during a treatment?

A reflexology treatment usually works on just the feet, so you remain fully clothed removing socks and shoes. In some circumstances the reflexologist works on areas of the hand if the foot cannot be worked on. You will be invited to relax on a reclining chair or couch. Your feet will be cleansed and then a variety of reflexology treatments will be used, adapted to suit your individual needs.

The reflexologist may recommend a course of treatments over a period of time to initially help with acute or chronic conditions or symptoms.
