Sports Therapy

Rosemary Cooper graduated from Farborough Technicall College in 1997 having qualified in an HND Science & Management of Health & Fitness. Rose first set out as an Fitness Instructor, also teaching aerobics, spinning, circuits, personal training within Spectrum Leisure Centre, Guildford whilst offering Sports Therapy at the Health & Fitness Suite. Rose then managed The Activzone gym at Guildford College 1998, keeping a balance with teaching the classes mentioned above, and finally set-up Optimum Fitness, Unisport, University of Surrey in 1999.

Optimum Fitness is an 'Sports Injury & Back Clinic' which treats many of the Athletes on campus, and staff also take advantage of the services offered. Rose recognises that Chiropractic, Physiotherapy and Sports Therapy all complement each other, Clients with an injury are often cross-referred within the Clinic and reach the maximum results, care and help.

Over the past year Rose has completed 'Intensive 5 day course in the Dysfunction of the Sacro-Illiac Joint' by Osteopath John Gibbons, Oxford University,' Core Stability and Gym Ball' by a Physiotherapist , and an 'Ultra Sound' refresher by Physique Management...

Rose is passionate about Sports Therapy, and enjoys working with the Public, 'It is so satisfying to help Clients recover from injury, albeit a Sports Injury or DIY accident!!' 'making a difference to people's health is priceless' 'I wouldn't want to do anything else'.

Running is one of Rose's favourite hobbies, and completed the Flora London Marathon in 2006. Rose will be involved in the 'Run-Fit' classes, and hopes to start up a 'Social Running Club' later this year - if you are interested please drop us a line...

 
 

 

SPORTS THERAPY
Sports therapy helps injured athletes return to full functionality, regardless of their age, sport or ability. Injuries treated vary according to the sport or activity involved. Clients include professional and amateur sports people, people who keep fit for fun, and those who have had a DIY injury, or those suffering from general muscular pain. Sports therapists give advice on prevention of injuries and can examine, assess and treat those that do occur, as well as helping with the rehabilitation process.
Sports therapy examines and assesses injuries

  • Mobilizing joints -  testing joints for ease and range of movement
  •  offers various types of sports massage
  • rehabilitating injuries by using manipulative techniques, apparatus and electrotherapy; Ultra sound
  • designing and monitoring rehabilitation programmes appropriate to the injury and the sport During a fixture/event:

       After a fixture/event:

  • examining and assessing injuries and dealing with traumas, e.g. cuts, bruises and blisters;
  • deciding whether athletes or players need extra treatments and co-ordinating referrals to other practitioners;
  • advising players or athletes on diet and nutrition (when therapists are appropriately trained);
  • working alone or with coaches, trainers and/or fitness advisers to implement exercise, conditioning, core stability and injury prevention programmes, so that athletes reach and maintain peak performance;
  • liaising with other health professionals in the sports sector and in mainstream medicine.
